Before the construction of the hotels, the inhabitants of Coche worked mainly in the fishing industry. On Coche, there is an old salt mine, and a shell cemetery left by a factory that used to run the pearl business on the island. There are several drivers that can offer you a tour around at very low rate. If you want to take the tour, you can book it at the reception of the hotel, or at the beach. The excursion lasts about two hours, and it is really worth it.
