El Valle
The town of El Valle is known for its church, and for La Virgen del Valle.
La Virgen del Valle is the patron saint of the East of Venezuela, and the Navy. On September 8th, we celebrate her Holiday with a massive procession on her honour.
Many people from all over the country come to the island just for this day.
The current church was finished in 1940.
The parishioners come throughout the year to visit the Virgin at her sanctuary.
The Diocesan Museum is located next to the church. Here you can admire all the offerings from the parishioners, the dresses of the Virgin, objects that belong to the church, and paintings where numerous scenes depict the Virgin Mary and some of her miracles.
The museum is open from 9.00 a.m. to 12 m, and from 2.00 p.m. until 5.00 p.m.

Also in El Valle, you can find La Casa del General Santiago Mariño. The General Santiago Mariño was a hero of the independence. It is a beautiful colonial house that holds a variety of colonial furniture, paintings of the time, and classic objects that belong to this period of Venezuela's history. The museum is only open during the mornings.
You can get very easily to El Valle from La Asuncion if you take the road through the mountain. It is a beautiful ride that gives you an outstanding look of the City of Porlamar.
