La Restinga National Park
To get to Laguna de La Restinga National Park, you need to drive west towards Macanao. There are very good road signs; therefore, it should not be difficult to get to the park.
At the port, there are several stands where you can buy souvenirs, and local jewellery at very reasonable prices. There are also many empanada stands, and a little bit to the right, at the end, there is a corner shop that sells drinks, and postcards. The public toilets are very neat and clean.
You can choose between a 30-minute boat ride, and the stay at the beach Playa La Restinga that is very interesting since it has 20 kilometers of longitude, and joins both Margarita Island and Peninsula de Macanao. Also, you can hire the boat for 1 hour to get the full ride around the swamp.
The prices are fixed; nevertheless, it is advisable to ask for information at La Restinga since prices go up frequently depending on the season. In the swamp, the tunnels have been named after romantic expressions like Plaza de Mis Amores (My Lovers' Square),
Canal del Beso (Kissing Tunnel), etc. The captain of the boat will show you starfish, seahorses, and many many clams and shells that you could enjoy when you get at the beach at very low prices.
Once you have arrived at Playa La Restinga, tell the captain of the boat the time you would like to go back. The Park closes at 16.30, and the journey back lasts only 10 minutes.
