Museo Marino

Museo MarinoEl Museo Marino is a Project of the UDO, Universidad de Oriente, where among several careers, Marine Biology is one of the most important ones. The museum is located in Boca de Rio, the largest populated area in Peninsula de Macanao.

The museum holds a very interesting collection of shells, coral, and samples of many other species. At the entrance you will find the skeleton of a whale.


Museo Marino ExhibitionThere is a room with several aquariums, and a small pool with starfish.

In the outer part, there is a pool with sea turtles, and different species of sharks. On the second floor of the building, there is a very interesting exhibition about Isla Cubagua, and the excavation of the ruins of the city of Nueva Cadiz. This city was built by the Spaniards for the exploitation of pearls, and it was one of the first cities in the continent.

Boca de RioAlso, on the second floor, there is an exhibition about net fishing. The museum opens from 9.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m. The visit to the museum can be perfectly combined with the excursión to Laguna de la Restinga.
