Museums

The main appeal of the island is its beautiful nature and beaches. There are also some interesting little museums that you can visit on a sunny day. Most of them are open in the morning.

Museo MarinoMuseo del Mar: it is in Boca de Río in Península de Macanao. It is worth visiting when you visit La Restinga or if you have planned a trip to Punta Arenas. It is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It holds a small collection of mollusks and crustaceans and some very interesting pictures.

Museo Nueva Cádiz: it is located in La Asunción close to the cathedral. It has pictures and information about Cubagua Island (formerly known as Nueva Cádiz), the first Spanish city in South America,  which was then destroyed by a seaquake. It is open in the mornings.

Museo Santiago Mariño: it is in El Valle opposite the church. The wall that protects the museum was destroyed by flooding last year. It is a colonial style house with lost of interesting antiques. It is only open in the mornings.

Museo Diocesano: it houses the offerings that people from all over Venezuela have made to Virgen del Valle (the Virgin of the Valley) It is open only in the mornings.

Pueblos de Margarita: it is located in Taguantar close to Juan Griego. It is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Contains a lot of information about the customs and traditions of the island.
