Pampatar
Pampatar is an old fishermen town that every day is expanding closer and closer to Porlamar.
Today, Pampatar's colonial houses have become businesses, restaurants, clubs, and bars. Nowadays, it is the place in fashion for clubbing, or enjoying a nice drink.
The main landmark in Pampatar is El Castillo de San Carlos de Borromeo that was built in 1684 since the previous fort was destroyed by the Dutch. In 1968, it was restored completely. It is one of the better taken care forts in the country. You can visit the fort from 8.00 a.m. to 12.00 m., and from 2.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.
La Iglesia del Cristo del Buen Viaje stands behind the fort. The cross over the altar is venerated by the fishermen of Pampatar.
La Casa de la Aduana is located next to the church. Casa de la Aduana was the former Palace of Government.
You can always have a nice view of Pampatar's Bay. At the end of the town, in La Caranta, there is a small beach where you can spend a pleasant afternoon: Playa Juventud.
The Cinematheque (Film Library) was built in Pampatar last year. There you can always watch nice artistic films, or documentaries from all over the world.
