Museo Marino

Museo MarinoEl Museo Marino is an independent, non profit foundation. The museum is located in Boca de Rio, the largest populated area on the Peninsula de Macanao.

The museum holds a very interesting collection of shells and coral along with samples of many other species. At the entrance you will find the skeleton of a whale.

Museo Marino ExhibitionThere is a room containing several aquariums, and a small pool with starfish.

In the outdoor section, there is a pool containing sea turtles and different species of sharks. On the second floor of the building, there is a very interesting exhibition about Isla Cubagua, and the excavation of the ruins of the city of Nueva Cadiz. This city was built by the Spaniards for the exploitation of pearls, and it was one of the first cities on the continent.

Boca de RioOn the second floor there is an exhibition about net fishing. The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 9.00 a.m. until 4.30 p.m. The visit to the museum can be perfectly combined with an excursion to Laguna de la Restinga.
